I must have some catnip growing in my yard. All of my cats are really loopy today. Or maybe whoever is burning and has smoked up the neighborhood is burning catnip. I have 3 semi-feral strays that I claim in my brood, 2 females and one male. One female has had 1 kitten i the past 3 or 4 years and the other had a litter of 3 in late 2006/early 2007 and she is the mother of the kitten that was sick a few weeks ago. I am lucky that they haven’t had any more than that.

I have slooowly gotten them to the point that they are not scared of me. I’ve even petted them a little while they were eating. Tonight the two girls have lost their marbles. One came into my house when I opened the back door to go out. Something I never would have expected. She wasn’t even upset when I closed the door and left her inside. Then on my return trip from the garbage cans the other one kept running up to me like she wanted me to pet her. So I did and she acted like we were the best of friends, purring and twining between my feet while I rubbed her and scratched under her chin.

Of course they would decide to become friendly now. I have been trying for the past several years to tame them so that I could take them to the vet and get them fixed. Now that I don’t have a fricking penny to spare they have decided that it is safe to be all nice. Maybe they will both hold off on getting pregnant again until I can scrounge together the money.

I don’t even know what growing catnip looks like. I’ve only ever seen the kind you buy. I think maybe someone said it has blue flowers? I do have a bunch of tiny blue flowers growing in a little trail right at my back steps. I think I’m off to do some research on catnip.
